Before installing window shutters in your home as window treatment, you must first weight in the advantages and disadvantages you may encounter so that in the end, you will not regret installing or not installing in the first place.

Advantages

•    Shutters can give you added protection

With window shutter, temperature and light control is very easy. Interior and exterior shutters can therefore serve as insulation to your home. Therefore, whether it is summer or winter, you can be protected against heat or cold.

•    It can give you privacy

You can easily choose between privacy and visibility by installing window shutters. And you can also have somewhere in between by just adjusting the louvers.

•    Shutters are customizable

You can easily customize the shutters you will install to your home. You can choose from a wide variety of styles and materials that will suit your needs and taste.

•    Shutters gives you added security

Shutters have latches, therefore serving as a second lock for your window.

•    Shutters are modern and stylish

One reason why shutters are being increasingly popular is due to its aesthetic appeal. It adds elegance to your home or office window.

•    Shutters are cost effective

Shutters are very resilient and durable; therefore you are assured that it will last for a long time. So although it is a bit pricey, you will not need to replace it every now and then. In the long run, you will save a lot of money because it is like just a one time payment afterall.

•    It is easily maintained

Unlike curtains that you need to wash so often, shutters are easy to clean, just wipe is with a damp cloth and it is already good as new. Shutters, especially those built from polyresin materials, do not accumulate dust and moisture easily unlike your typical curtains.

Disadvantages

•    Shutters are more expensive than regular window treatments

Installing window shutter will cost you a lot more than just buying curtains for your window.

•    You cannot put furnitures in front of your window

If you use curtains, you can still put something in front of your window, say for example, a sofa or a display table. However, if you use window shutter, you cannot put anything in front of the window as it can block your shutter and you will not be able to open it. Especially when you use full height window shutter.

As far as I am concerned, I think the advantages completely outweighs the disadvantages of installing a window shutter. The major disadvantage will probably be its cost but rest assured that window shutter can give you value of your money.
